Neck Pain

Physio Elements provide a range of treatments for sufferers of neck pain, whether acute or chronic. The pain you feel in your neck usually arises from the joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves or discs, but you may also experience pins and needles or numbness in your arms, as well as headaches.

What causes neck pain?

One of the most common causes of neck pain is poor posture, an issue that has become more prevalent due to spending long hours sitting at a computer. Whip lash is also another cause of neck pain, as is a slipped disc, muscle strain and osteoarthritis. It can also be caused by sudden twisting movements of your neck or sleeping awkwardly.

  • Osteoarthritis

How do we treat your neck pain?

We have a range of treatments that can help heal your neck pain with most depending on the actual cause of the problem. After a comprehensive initial assessment, we will customise a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs and designed to return functionality to your neck and prevent the pain recurring.

Your treatment plan may include spinal mobilisations to restore correct movement to the vertebrae in your neck or it may include massage, heat or ice, as well as strengthening exercises, trigger point release and dry needling.

How can you prevent neck pain?

One of the best ways to prevent neck pain recurring is to optimise your posture, avoid overusing your neck muscles and strengthen these muscles. An ergonomic working environment will greatly assist in this prevention, as is not carrying heavy shoulder bags and not tucking your phone between your ear and shoulder. Your sleeping posture can also be a cause of neck pain and we can suggest relevant changes as part of your treatment plan.
