The Benefits of Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy has many incredible benefits for patients with a plethora of pain symptoms!

First of all, what is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is the use of exercise therapy within a specially designed heated pool to target and treat a wide range of conditions. Hydrotherapy is a particularly helpful treatment for general joint pain, low back pain, orthopaedic conditions, neurological conditions, pain related to arthritis, sports injuries, fibromyalgia, treatment post elective orthopaedic surgeries such as hip and knee replacements and many more.

Hydrotherapy consists of gentle and controlled movements in warm water heated between 31 and 35 degrees. The buoyancy of water supports your weight and minimises the stress on the muscles and joints of the legs and spine, thereby allowing normal pain free movement.

Hydrotherapy can help with your pain as it;

  • Minimises aches and pains,
  • Will help you gain strength,
  • Increases flexibility,
  • Improves general fitness,
  • Has minimal impact on joints.

People with Chronic pain often have difficulty with exercising because even with low to mid impact exercise such as walking, their pain levels flare up. Hydrotherapy is a great way for these people to exercise at lower impact while still challenging the muscles and cardiovascular system.

At Physio Elements we can provide you with an efficient self-managed pool exercise program for your condition or needs, simplified with a laminated sheet of exercises that you can take with you to your local hydrotherapy pool at your own time.
